Statue of Carlo Acutis
Hand-Painted with Excellent Details
Carlo Acutis was born on May 3, 1991, in London, where his parents were working at the time, but he grew up in Milan, Italy. From a very young age, Carlo showed a deep faith and a special relationship with the Eucharist, which he called "my highway to heaven." At just seven years old, he made his First Communion and, from then on, he attended daily Mass, prayed the Rosary, and spent time in Eucharistic adoration.
Despite his age, Carlo demonstrated impressive spiritual maturity. He was very sensitive to the poor, defended classmates who were bullied, and was attentive to the needs of others. At the same time, he was a typical young person of his time: he loved computers, video games, soccer, and pets. It was through technology that Carlo found a way to evangelize: he created a website to catalogue and promote Eucharistic miracles from around the world, using his programming skills.
Carlo saw the internet as a powerful tool to do good and spread the faith. He believed that "sadness is looking at ourselves; happiness is looking at God." He lived with joy, simplicity, and deep trust in God. In 2006, at the age of 15, he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia. He faced the illness with great serenity, offering his sufferings for the Church and the Pope. He died on October 12, 2006, in Monza, Italy.
His testimony has inspired thousands of people around the world. He was beatified on October 10, 2020, in Assisi, a city he felt spiritually connected to because of his admiration for Saint Francis. Today, Carlo is considered a model for young people and the digital age, often called "the Cyber Apostle of the Eucharist" and "God’s Influencer."
